Wind Turbines

For many people the installation of a wind turbine can be the most cost effective way of incorporating renewable energy into their home or business. If there is sufficient wind, an appropriately sized wind turbine can be a good investment and a great way of reducing carbon dioxide emissions.

Beco Solar and Cholwell Wind Energy  can provide a range of application.

Proven wind turbines come in a number of sizes and are suitable for use in homes, farms, schools and business developments. They can be grid connected or used in off grid applications.

We can offer a range of other turbines from under 1kW for battery charging to 50kW and above.

Siting

It is essential that wind turbines are sited at appropriate places.

Look at these documents from the British Wind Energy Association to help assess your site.

http://www.bwea.com/you/siting.html

http://www.bwea.com/small/faq.html

We recommend a minimum average wind speed of 5m/s at 10m above ground. The best site for a wind turbine is towards the ridge of a smooth hill with a clear view towards the prevailing wind. Nearby trees and buildings will cause turbulence, reducing output and increasing wear on the turbine. To avoid this, the turbine head should be at least twice as high as any obstacles within about 100m

Planning

Wind turbines do require planning permission. Clear guidelines do exist to assist planners in deciding whether or not to permit planning permission. We are happy to assist with planning applications.

Proven

Beco solar has been installing Proven wind turbines for more than 5 years.  We are happy to recommend them to our customers as strong, reliable machines that that can produce significant amounts of power in the right position. The machines come in 3 different sizes and are suitable for domestic, farm and business use. The machines can be used attached to the grid or for off grid applications.

Look at our download page for technical information on machine design, planning, and installation.

For full information on the machines refer  to the www.provenenergy.com

Typical prices are given below.

Turbine MCS Rating Tower Heights Available Annual Energy production at 5m/s average windspeed Price Guide
Proven 7 2.5kW 6.5m or 11m 4700 kWh £14-17,000
Proven 11 5.2kW 9m, 11.6m, 15m 8950 kWh £26-31,000
Proven 35/2 12.1kW 15m, 25m 23200 kWh £48-55,000

Notes:

  • Prices include supply, installation, delivery and the first service.
  • They assume a reasonable cable run from the machine to the connection point.
  • They do not include foundation and trenching costs.
  • They do include VAT at the domestic rate of 5%.
  • These prices are for grid connected systems.
  • Battery charging systems are also available. A good-sized battery bank will add about £5,000 to the cost of a Proven 7 turbine.

Proven have a useful energy calculator on their website – www.provenenergy.co.uk/our-products/energy-calculator to indicate the likely value of an installation based on your postcode.
